Crassula pyramidalis – Appearance and General Care

Description:
Crassula pyramidalis is one of the most distinctive members of the Crassula family, forming a perfectly geometric column of tightly stacked leaves. The grey-green leaves overlap so closely that the plant resembles a miniature stone tower or living sculpture. As it matures, it develops into a dense, pyramidal column that can blush with pink and red tones in bright light. In summer, mature plants are crowned with clusters of small, fragrant white to cream flowers, creating a beautiful contrast against the architectural foliage.

General Care:

  • Light: Prefers bright light to full sun. Strong light encourages compact growth and enhances leaf colour.
  • Water: Water moderately during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.
  • Soil: Use a well-draining succulent or cactus mix with added grit or pumice.
  • Temperature: Thrives in warm conditions but should be protected from frost. Ideal range is 10–30°C.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during spring and summer with a balanced succulent fertilizer.
  • Maintenance: Easy to grow but sensitive to overwatering. Ensure good airflow and drainage to prevent rot.

Crassula pyramidalis is a true collector’s succulent, admired for its remarkable symmetry, sculptural form, and unusual architectural beauty.
