Description:
Aporocactus flagelliformis, commonly known as the Rat Tail Cactus, is a fast-growing, trailing cactus admired for its long, slender, cascading stems. The stems can reach over a metre in length and are covered in fine golden-brown spines that give the plant a soft, fuzzy appearance. During spring and summer, it produces an abundance of spectacular bright pink to magenta flowers that emerge along the stems, creating a stunning waterfall of colour. Its pendulous growth habit makes it one of the most popular cacti for hanging baskets and elevated displays.

General Care:

• Light: Prefers bright light to filtered sun. Morning sun and afternoon shade are ideal, especially in hot climates.
• Water: Water regularly during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering during winter.
• Soil: Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix with added grit or pumice.
• Temperature: Enjoys warm conditions and should be protected from frost. Ideal range is 10–30°C.
• Feeding: Feed lightly during spring and summer with a cactus fertilizer to encourage flowering.
• Maintenance: Easy to grow and quick to establish. Remove old stems if necessary and provide space for the stems to trail naturally.
